In this post, I am going to quote two shlokas from the Bhagavad Gita that explain the importance of fulfilling our duties without attachment to the results. Read till the end and see the impact of these two life-changing shlokas on your life.

1.

कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन |
मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि ||

karmaṇyevādhikāraste mā phaleṣu kadācana |

mā karmaphalaheturbhūrmā te saṅgo’stvakarmaṇi || (2.47)

"You have the right to perform your prescribed duty, but you are not entitled to the fruits of action. Never consider yourself the cause of the results of your activities, and never be attached to not doing your duty."

Here Lord Krishna is advising Arjuna to fight without attachment to the results. His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada, the Founder Acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, said that attachment, positive or negative, is the cause of bondage. Hence we should discharge our duties to the best of our ability, but never be attached to the results of those actions because we have only the right to discharge our duties, not its results. One cannot be liberated if one is attached to the results.

2.

मयि सर्वाणि कर्माणि संन्यस्याध्यात्मचेतसा |
निराशीर्निर्ममो भूत्वा युध्यस्व विगतज्वर: ||

mayi sarvāṇi karmāṇi saṃnyasyādhyātmacetasā |

nirāśīrnirmamo bhūtvā yudhyasva vigatajvara: || (3.30)

"Therefore, O Arjuna, surrendering all your works unto Me (Lord Krishna), with full knowledge of Me, without desires for profit, with no claims to proprietorship, and free from lethargy, fight."

This verse clearly indicates the purpose of the Bhagavad Gita. Lord Krishna instructs that one has to become fully Krishna conscious to discharge our duties without attachment. Krishna consciousness is the full knowledge of one's eternal relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Krishna. Arjuna is ordered by Lord Krishna to fight as if the Lord was his military commander and discharge his duties as a warrior without claiming proprietorship. One must realise that nothing in this world belongs to any of us but is owned solely by Lord Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This consciousness will lead us to the path of salvation.

KRISHNA, THE SUPREME PERSONALITY OF GODHEAD.
